Another day, some more sights, some more dollars spent.
We kind of slept in today because the room was so comfortable with a nice bed and air conditioning. I watched the "Final Countdown" channel last night for a while. This is a channel that played the song "The Final Countdown" on repeat with paintings of lions and tigers in the background. There was a phone number to call. I was tempted, but did not give in.
We headed to the Vatican City. Over there is the Sistine Chappel, a really nice square, The Bassilica, which is this amazing church, and J.P. II is buried there. We went into the Bassilica and saw some famous statue among other things. Very nice church. We then tried going to the Sistine Chappel, but it had just closed. It wont be open again until Monday, so we have to go back.
We then met Anbjorg and Kristian in front of the Colloseum. We got some very over priced lunch and then went to see the Colloseum. That place is definitely worth the visit. They should still have gladiator battles today. I think that would be good.
We then went accross the street to this area that has a lot of Roman ruins. Pretty cool stuff, although not as cool as the Greek ruins. Maybe I am biased, but thats my opinion. If you dont like it, then go to hell.
Irina, you will like this. At the Roman ruins was this sort of arch de triumph, but an Italian version. It was made to commemorate the defeat of the Jews by the Romans. Just thought you would like to know.
After that we tracked down the "best ice cream in Rome." I thought it was spectacular. I had to have some, even though I cut back on sweets. I had some ginger and cinnamon flavored ice cream. So good.
Near the ice cream place was the Trevi fountain. Holy shit!!! What a fountain!
We went back to the hotel and then out to eat. Now I am at the internet cafe.
I really like not having to post multiple days worth of stuff. It makes it so much easier.
Katie is sitting next to me right dying of laughter over something I wrote in my "l-j."
Tomorrow we are going to some more catacombs. Katie has been to them before and I guess they totally wail. There is also a church that we will go to which is made completely out of bones. Imagine that, on one trip, seeing a cathedral made out of salt and then one made out of bones.
I apoligize for the schizophrenic nature of this post.
Yes, Nadia, we are having fun. I hope Pittsburgh is nice and that you have fun reading crazy manuscripts.
